Every woman is a world and there is no pregnancy comparable to another. What is true is that there are some symptoms, mostly early symptoms, that are commonly associated with pregnancy. The most known early signs and symptoms of pregnancy might include: missed period, tender and swollen breast, nausea, vomiting, increased urination and fatigue.

In addition, as time passes, these signs and symptoms will disappear and others will arrive. Some of the late pregnancy signs and symptoms may include: swelling legs, face and breast; increased pigmentation in the abdomen, back pain, Braxton Hicks contractions, shortness of breath, heartburn and spider veins, varicose veins and hemorrhoids.

These are only some of the symptoms. If you want to learn more about why these signs and symptoms occur, take a look into this article about signs and symptoms of pregnancy.

Pregnancy tests can be taken from the first day you missed your period but if you don’t know when your period should start or you are irregular, you may take it 21 days after you had the last unprotected sex. They work by detecting a hormone, hCG (human gonadotropin) which is released in the early stages of pregnancy and it is eliminated through your urine.

These are the basics, but do you want to learn more in depth how a pregnancy test works? How do they detect hCG? How do the lines appear on the stick? How does ClearBlue work? Then take a look into the pregnancy test article.

Health Questions

Pregnancy nose is a thing. Here’s why it happens.

The underlying reason is simple: during your pregnancy your body is a “hormone bomb”. Some of these hormones cause dilatation, this makes sense since you are now sending blood and nutrients to the fetus and for it to be as smooth as possible, your vessels must be as dilated as they can be.

This dilation can result in more blood flow going to certain areas, the main target is the uterus but it is not the only one that gets it. It should be noted that as well as other processes in our body, vessels’ dilation is not necessarily selective. So basically, the “pregnancy nose” is just a colateral inflammation of your nose when your body tries to bring more blood to the fetus.
Pregnancy nose it’s mostly harmless, at least physically. However, it can come with other symptoms. This increase in the blood flow in the nose of some pregnant women can not only cause inflammation but also an increase of congestion, nosebleeds and, in some cases, discomfort.

The good thing about it is that, contrary to other pregnancy signs and symptoms, the nose goes back to normal within six weeks after birth.

Chemical pregnancy is a term used for those relatively early miscarriage that occur within the first five weeks of pregnancy. An embryo develops, possibly even is implanted in the uterus, but then stops growing. Because chemical pregnancies start so early, many women who miscarry are unaware of it.
To learn more about chemical pregnancies and why they happen take a look into this article about chemical pregnancies.

Maybe you think that a fetus can only implant and grow in the uterus, but that’s not entirely true. A fertilized egg can implant itself outside of the womb, when it does, typically in one of the fallopian tubes but it can also happen in places like the liver. This is called an ectopic pregnancy. This is a very risky situation being the first cause of mothers dead in early pregnancies. Thus, it must be addressed by a doctor, lucky it does not happen so frequently, only 19.7 cases per 1,000 pregnancies.

Do you still have questions? Do you want to know how it happens? What is the treatment? Keep learning at the ectopic pregnancy post.

Even though most babies start teething at around 6 months, each baby is different and some of them will start as soon as 4 months and some after 12 months. There are some cases of babies that are already born with some teeth but this is anecdotic more than a common thing.

The important thing about teething is to help relieve the pain. Usually the thing that works the best are the Freezer Teething Toys. These are medical silicone toys that can be stored in the freezer so when the baby bites them the cold lowers the pain. When it comes to the mother it is important to protect your nipple, some babies do not bite, and some understand rapidly that they should not bite after two or three times of doing it. However, some babies bite a lot, this is why some women use nipple silicone protectors.
